[post_content] => While it feels sublime for a while, our skin soon starts to let us know there has to be another way! The cold outdoor air, dry indoor air, hot showers and mediocre skincare products, all converge to give us skin that is red, itchy, dry and seriously unhappy! So, what can we do about it and how can Gernetic help with your skincare needs?

Here are our top skincare tips!

Cleanse and Exfoliate the Right Way!

Many traditional cleansers are drying and leave skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. Opt for gentle, lotion based, fragrance free cleansers to nourish the skin as it cleans. Cleansing is the first and essential step to any skincare routine. The skin, like the most delicate of silks, requires a cleanser that respects its delicate nature. Cleansing should not strip the skin of its natural hydrolipidic film, instead it should reinforce this natural protective barrier that keeps the skin soft, comfortable and never taut. Glyco cleansing milk is the most delicate of cleansing milks, rich in glycoproteins to deeply moisturise, leaving skin clear, smooth and incredibly soft. Calendula oil adds to the skin lipid barrier to prevent dryness and keeps skin protected and functioning at its best. For a deeper clean that re-mineralises and hydrates the skin, use Marine Cleansing Gel a couple of times a week. Gently removing superficial dead skin cells will allow your skin to absorb your moisturiser leading to more deeply hydrated skin.

Warm not Hot!

While it can be tempting to warm up under a super hot shower every day, the hot water actually strips your skin of its natural oils.  This leaves it dry and irritated. Make it a lukewarm shower and don’t stay under there for too long! Blot the skin dry with your towel rather than rub and apply a thick body moisturiser over damp skin to keep moisture locked in. Add Gernetic’s Body Milk to your skincare routine. This nourishing cream restores softness to even the driest of skins. Shower_Winterblog

Rethink Your Skincare Products

Every season calls for a new look at your skincare routine and the products that you use. In Winter, we need to find ways for the skin to absorb and lock in moisture. Gernetic has an array of Winter loving products that combine to give you beautifully hydrated, supple skin. Our resident Gernetic Educator, Danielle Mason, suggests the following products this Winter:

IMMUNO MASK

Used once or twice a week, the most important mask in the Gernetic range, energises the cells so your skin is able to absorb all the nutrients that are coming its way! Rich in amino acids and trace elements, Immuno is purifying and toning, playing a key role in restoring and regulating the skin functions. Plus this July and August you can receive Immuno absolutely FREE when you purchase Nuclea Repairing Cream – read Anti Ageing Promotion to find out more!

NUCLEA

Winter is all about nourishing and protecting the skin from the cold and windy days ahead. Nuclea repairing cream is also one product to consider adding to your routine, if you want radiant skin this winter. Why? Because it activates basal cellular activity to reduce the depth of wrinkles.  Plus it stimulates DNA to accelerate cell division and to boost collagen renewal! Nuclea will nourish and protect your skin, while keeping your skin’s youthful cell activities thriving all through Winter.

SYNCHRO

With its unrivalled regenerating and healing powers, Synchro is at the very core of Gernétic’s anti-ageing research and philosophy. Synchro’s combination of active amino acids, trace elements, vitamins and nurturing cold-press oils is designed to nourish, revitalize, hydrate, calm and heal your skin. This makes Synchro an essential part of your Winter skincare routine.

CYTOBI

Cytobi is a high performance, super nutritious, anti-ageing cream that soothes, repairs and enhances the skin’s defences by delivering essential nutrition directly to the cells. It is ideal for fine, dry, sensitive or inflamed skins and is especially recommended for the treatment of skin problems such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. So, if your skin is particularly sensitive at this time of year, Cytobi could be the answer.

CELLS LIFE SERUM

If you’re not using a serum, Winter is the time to introduce one! As Serums contain smaller molecules than traditional moisturisers, they are even more effective at hydrating the skin.  They deliver nutrients more deeply and intensely for optimum results. Cells Life Serum is a concentrated blend of essential proteins, peptides, amino acids and Hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid, in particular, boosts the skin’s ability to retain moisture, deeply hydrating and nourishing the skin from the inside out. The Serum visibly reduces fine lines and increases collagen and elastin production, leaving skin replenished and radiant.products

HYDRA GER MASK

Another Winter loving mask that you can use once a week is Hydra Ger Mask.  This mask works at a deep level, allowing the basal cells to preserve their moisture. The active ingredients in this nourishing mask actually encourage the binding of water molecules!  Skin is left hydrated all Winter long!

Drink and Eat Well!

While external skin care is essential for hydrating and protecting the skin, a healthy diet, rich in essential fatty acids can nurture skin from the inside. Staying hydrated in Winter is also paramount!  Of course we don’t feel as thirsty in Winter as we do in Summer and endless cups of coffee and tea to keep us warm, can be extremely dehydrating. If 2 litres of cold water don’t tempt you, why not try sipping on warm water in a mug or go with green tea and herbals.

Treatment Time!

Winter is actually the perfect time to invest in some treatments. A facial once a month can combat dull winter skin by sloughing off the dead skin, cleansing and hydrating it so that your everyday skincare routine can work its magic! This warm, soothing drink is perfect for the colder months and it is a powerhouse of goodness. The vibrant yellow colour of this delicious drink owes itself to its star ingredient – turmeric! The medicinal properties of this Indian spice have been used for thousands of years to treat all sorts of ailments ranging from joint pain and inflammation to depression. The active compound in turmeric is curcumin, which is bursting with antioxidants. Antioxidants are essential to the protection and functioning of our cells and research shows that a diet rich in them may lower your risk of infection and disease. With the addition of cinnamon and ginger in most golden milk recipes, the antioxidant levels are even more impressive!  Your health will be boosted and your taste buds will thank you! Here are 3, out of many, reasons why drinking Golden Milk regularly may seriously improve your health!

Cold and Flu Remedy

Is the Winter chill bringing on the dreaded sniffles and sore throats? Well golden milk is a natural remedy! Its hero ingredient, turmeric, contains antiviral and antibacterial superpowers that will combat the most stubborn of colds! The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric help to relieve symptoms and the high antioxidant levels may, therefore, boost your immune system to stave off the Winter bugs!

Clear Skin

Turmeric has been shown to keep skin healthy, minimise signs of ageing and even reduce acne. Research has shown that drinking golden milk regularly may even bring huge relief to eczema sufferers – this could be due to the immune balancing properties of turmeric and its anti-inflammatory effects.

Brain Power

The combination of medicinal spices in golden milk all seem to enhance brain function. Curcumin has been shown to increase levels of the brain hormone, BDNF, which promotes brain cell development. Ginger may boost reaction time and memory and studies show that cinnamon can reduce symptoms of brain related diseases.

Golden Milk Recipe

There are two important rules to follow in order to reap the full health benefits of turmeric – it needs to be cooked and combined with a pinch of black pepper. This is because, these 2 things help to activate the health properties thereby increasing the absorption of the curcumin. Enjoy this simple, easy to make  Golden Milk recipe from Healthline and snuggle down for some cosy, nourishing you time!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) of an unsweetened milk of your choice (coconut or almond are great options)
  • 1 tsp of turmeric
  • 1 small piece of grated fresh ginger or 1/2 tsp of ginger powder
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder
  • 1 pinch of ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp of honey (optional)

Method

  • Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender
  • Gently heat in a saucepan for 3 to 5 minutes until hot but not boiling.
  • Enjoy your nourishing golden milk!

Here are some of our top tips to help you on the path to stress less:

Avoid caffeine and alcohol

The stimulant effects these have on the body increase your level of stress rather than lower it.   Focus on a nutritious diet that is low in refined sugars to avoid the energy crashes which can lead to irritability and tiredness. You may also like Rejuvenating Tea.

Get active

The surge of stress hormones pumping through our bodies, often on a regular basis, is not doing us any good! By doing regular exercise that works up a sweat, we can calm the body and the mind and the endorphins that are released will boost your mood no end!

Sleep more

Yes, it can be a vicious cycle with those stressful thoughts that stop us entering the world of slumber, but there are some things we can do to help. Make sure your bedroom is a calm, tranquil haven, turn off devices well before bedtime, try taking a warm bath or reading a few pages of an undemanding book to gently switch your brain to sleep mode. You may also Wake Up To Sleep.

Relaxation is key

and it is also a skill that needs to be learned. Meditation or mindfulness can help to focus your mind and quieten those stressful voices. Regular yoga practice is also an excellent way to learn the skills of relaxation.

Say NO

We often agree to take on more work or more commitments when we just don’t have the bandwidth to do much more. Learn to say no and give yourself some room to breathe. There are many ways that we can manage stress in our lives – it can feel like it’s just one more thing to do and put it in the too hard basket. But the physical response stress has on the body can lead to all sorts of problems, both mentally and physically. Make yourself the number 1 priority - restore your health and wellbeing and enjoy life to the max! The gut microbiome refers to all the organisms that live in the gut, from the mouth through to the rectum. Research has shown that the mix of these organisms, or microbiota, is closely linked to autoimmune health, weight, mental health and various diseases. This discovery has lead to a huge boost in promoting how we can improve and enhance our gut health.   It has highlighted how our modern lifestyles have had a negative impact on the gut microbiome through unhealthy diets as well as over use of antibiotics and antibacterial products. Many of us now recognise the importance of adding probiotics to our diets and lightening our toxin load. Similarly, the skin microbiome refers to the collection of organisms that live on our skin – the largest organ of the human body! Research has shown that the same factors that impact our gut health are also impacting our skin microbiome, and protecting it is just as vital! Like the gut, the skin is home to trillions of organisms, all of which serve a purpose. When the balance of these organisms is altered, it can lead to all sorts of problems! Skin conditions from acne to eczema may be a result of changes to this delicate ecosystem, and it would seem our modern lifestyle is to blame. The biggest question is, are we too clean? Our skin is already under attack from environmental factors ranging from sunlight to pollution but we also subject it to harsh cleansers, soaps, deodorants, cosmetics as well as medications. The rise of antibacterial soaps seems to be having an extremely negative effect on our skin microbiome and this obsession with cleanliness may be doing more harm than good. So how can we protect and nurture this complex skin microbiome? - Eat healthily and stay hydrated. - Remove trigger foods – for example dairy and gluten can exacerbate skin issues. - Take care of your gut – use a quality probiotic and include fermented foods in your diet. - Work up a sweat - did you know that if you have an optimal diet, the sweat you produce is a super prebiotic for your skin?! - Avoid the use of anti bacterial soaps – let your microbiome flourish. Don’t be afraid to get dirty! - Keep stress at bay – we know stress has a negative effect over our entire body, skin microbiome included! Try yoga or meditation. There are non toxic beauty products out there and even microbiome friendly ones! In fact the beauty industry is revealing new, innovative technological approaches to skin health with this deeper understanding of skin microbiome.   With a 100% natural and truly preservative free skincare range that is leading microbiome biodiversity, JooMo has become a world leader in the field. Now available in Australia, JooMo’s face and body wash have achieved exceptional results by supporting the skin’s natural ecosystem, thereby improving its immunity, hydration and pH levels. Gernétic Skincare is also known for its microbiome friendly approach. Avoiding harsh exfoliation and nurturing the acid mantle of the skin for a balanced pH where the microbiome will thrive. The result is robust, healthy skin, fast! Discover them today: https://joomo.com.au  and http://gernetic.com.au/ And nurture your microbiome for optimal health! Now what’s not to love about the vibrant, delicate and delicious kiwi fruit? A feast for the eyes once cut open, the unassuming kiwi fruit is a miniature powerhouse of nutrients. Did you know that the kiwi has way more vitamin C than an orange or lemon?   Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that supports the elimination of free radicals – the nasties that can cause inflammation in the body leading to chronic disease. Vitamin C is also an awesome immunity booster, protecting you during the cold and flu season. Packed with dietary fibre, especially if you eat it with the skin on, Kiwi fruit can lower the risk of heart disease. High fibre foods keep you feeling fuller for longer and in turn can help to control blood pressure, cholesterol and weight gain. Loaded with vitamins and minerals, the kiwi fruit provides the body with optimum nutrition to support a healthy functioning system. Containing Vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium this fruit is a powerhouse of health benefits! It even contains Omega 3 fatty acids, which we know from our previous blog, is vital for radiant skin. Use in salads, desserts and smoothies or simply enjoy straight from the fruit bowl and reap the benefits that kiwi fruit has to offer this Autumn! Research has shown that Omega 3 supports heart, brain and eye health, lowering our risk of heart disease and alzheimers as well as many other chronic diseases. But did you know that Omega 3 fatty acids also play an important role in the structure and appearance of the skin? The Omega 3 derived from fish oil contains essential fatty acids known as DHA and EPA, which our body cannot produce itself . These fatty acids protect the cells in the epidermis (the top layer of skin), promoting hydration and also work deep inside the dermis (the lower layer of skin) to prevent inflammation. By cocooning the skin cells, Omega 3 has been shown to protect against free radical damage from sun exposure and pollution. With continual exposure to pollution, stress and unhealthy diets, the body becomes inflamed, which in turn damages the skin’s collagen. When collagen is weakened, the skin is unable to bounce back, leading to wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and on the forehead. Eating foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon, tuna, chia seeds, flaxseed and walnuts, can support and enhance the structure of the skin, which in turn can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Omega 3 fatty acids are a vital part of your skin’s fat content and serve to boost its protective function by keeping moisture in and irritants out. Insufficient fatty acids cause the skin to become dry, rough and sensitive. So for skin that is truly hydrated from the inside out, think Omega 3! A plethora of skin conditions such as acne, eczema or rosacea have been shown to improve with adequate levels of omega 3 and if you want firmer, plumper, younger looking skin, the fatty acids are essential to revealing a youthful complexion. With so many amazing health and beauty benefits, Omega 3 is a powerhouse nutrient we can’t do without and if you want your best skin ever, it needs to be at the top of your list! There are a few factors that cause us to crave sugar including high stress levels, low levels of serotonin (the feel good hormone), low energy or lack of sleep and hormonal changes. Plus we all know that feeling that sugar can give us – increased alertness, mood and energy – that is so needed at the 3 o’clock slump! However, when we eat more sugar than our body needs, it gets converted into fats called triglycerides, most of which remains in the liver and accumulates around the waist. Sugar causes the hormone insulin to increase and the more insulin that is produced the higher our risk of type 2 diabetes. New research has shown that sugar also causes cancerous cells to grow and metastasise as cancer cells feed primarily on glucose. Sugar can also affect the health of the largest organ in the body, our skin.  Major issues include: Glycation – occurs when glucose enters the bloodstream and travels to the skin tissue, it attaches itself to collagen fibres, making the collagen hard and inflexible. This results in loss of suppleness and elasticity and speeds up the ageing process, allowing lines and wrinkles to manifest themselves quickly. Inflammation – when blood sugar levels rise, this may result in inflammation of our organs, the skin included. As an immune response, the body reacts with skin rashes or cysts in the form of eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis. Other reactions can be hypersensitivity (which results in redness), poor digestion and poor elimination. Acneic breakouts – due to the inflammatory response our body cannot eliminate toxins through the normal metabolism. Many of these toxins then build up in the cells and are eventually discarded as excretions through the skin, appearing as pimples, cysts, pustules and rashes. Often coined “sweet poison”, sugar truly is something we can do without! So here are some top tips to help you break your sugar addiction: Manage stress Stress is a huge factor in increased sugar cravings so finding ways to manage it is important. Try 10 minutes of meditation or deep breathing, go for a walk with a friend, take a hot bath, drink herbal tea, and don't forget exercise. Add protein and healthy fats to your diet: Lean meat, fish, pulses, nuts, avocadoes are all great sources. Consume foods high in magnesium, chromium and zinc: These nutrients help to improve your cells’ sensitivity to insulin to maximise the amount of sugar your body is able to metabolise and burn. A deficiency in these nutrients may lead to sugar cravings. Foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, broccoli and bran are all nutrient dense. Swap sugary junk food for naturally sweetened alternatives Instead of store-bought sugary food, make your own banana-sweetened muffins, colourful fruit salad, or homemade ice cream by blending frozen bananas with a splash of milk. Remove temptation Out of sight, out of mind! Don’t buy it in the first place and you are not going to be tempted. Get quality sleep Lack of sleep causes all sorts of problems and affects the hormones that control our appetite. So ensure you are getting enough shut-eye. Don’t skip meals Going for long periods without food can cause your blood sugar levels to drop which in turn promotes hunger and most likely for carbs or sugary foods. With so many downsides to sugar and the start of a brand new year, it might just be the perfect time to ditch it for good! But our love affair with sugar is one of the main culprits linked to the overall decline in health in the developed world and reducing our intake is recommended if we want to protect ourselves from chronic disease.

Enjoy a Gernetic facial at a Salon near you today and discover all that Gernetic has to offer! facial     So, don’t let Winter get the better of you! Now is the time to lay the foundations for radiant and healthy skin that will last all year. Your skin can look and feel amazing with just a few, well thought out tweaks!   For all your Anti-Ageing, Rejuvenating Skincare solutions, visit a Salon Near You   [post_title] => Winter Skincare Tips [post_excerpt] => Winter is here again!
