Not quite feeling it? You are not alone! If your body feels less like a temple and more like a building in dire need of renovation, then it is time to spruce it up with a detox program.

Here are our steps to a successful detox:
- Choose fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables.Buy organic produce when possible.
- Avoid packaged and processed foods.
- Read ingredient lists on products to ensure that the food does not contain high amounts of saturated fat or sugar.
- Add fresh vegetable juice to your diet and avoid alcohol and coffee.
- Move your body – gentle exercise such as yoga, walking and swimming stimulate the natural detox process.
With an abundance of fresh produce available,Spring is the perfect time to start a detox.
So while you are busy spring cleaning your home, do some spring cleaning to your body too!

But did you know it is one of the healthiest fruits on the planet?   Brimming with vitamin C, grapefruit boosts the immune system and helps to shorten colds; perfect at this time of year!

Rich in antioxidants grapefruit supports clear, healthy skin and can lower our risk for many diseases.  The rich pink and red colour is due to lycopene , a type of carotenoid.  Lycopene appears to have cancer fighting properties which help to combat oxygen free radicals, the compounds that can damage our cells.

Containing pectin, a form of soluble fibre, grapefruit has been shown to lower cholesterol and protect against heart disease.

With so many health benefits, it’s time to discover the juicy pink grapefruit and enjoy its delicious goodness.

[post_content] => But did you know there is a way to enjoy chocolate without the guilt and with some delicious health benefits thrown in?
Think raw, organic cacao – not the sugar rich junk food bars you find at the checkout.
Raw cacao is somewhat different from the common "Cocoa" most of us grew up with in our hot milk.
Cacao (pronounced "cu-COW") refers to the Theobroma Cacao tree from which Cocoa is derived, and is used when referring to unprocessed versions of the cacao bean.
Normal cocoa powder and chocolate have been chemically processed and roasted, which destroys a large amount of the antioxidants and flavanols (the things that keep you young and healthy).
Cacao in its raw natural state is bursting with nutrients. Containing 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries and 4 times the antioxidants of green tea, cacao soaks up free radicals, which cause cell and tissue damage and can lead to diseases such as cancer.

Cacao is packed with essential minerals such as iron, zinc, calcium, potassium and magnesium.  It also boasts high levels of sulfur, the mineral that promotes healthy skin and strong hair and nails.  Cacao is also a natural mood enhancer, increasing serotonin levels and releasing endorphins.
Explore ways to use cacao to make your own chocolate delights – it’s really not as hard as you may think.
With so many beauty and well-being properties, cacao tops our list for a guilt-free, healthy and very happy Easter!

[post_content] => Here's the low-down on some of the best skin-friendly foods to add to your shopping list.

BLUEBERRY BLISS
Packed with antioxidants, these tiny blue powerhouses protect the skin against damaging free radicals to keep skin firm and wrinkle free.

GREENS ARE GO
Spinach and kale are two of the most nutritious vegetables, loaded with antioxidants, beta-carotene and lutein, which have been shown to increase skin elasticity for a firm, toned complexion.

FISH IS YOUR FRIEND
Omega- 3 fatty oils are essential for skin cell health and keeping skin hydrated. Sardines, salmon or mackerel twice a week can even help reduce chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

WATERY WONDERS
Eat fruits and veggies with a high water content, such as cucumber and apples, to keep skin supple for healthy, glowing, wrinkle free skin.

ANTIOXIDANT ALLIES
To reap the most health benefits from your fruit and veg eat them raw and choose an array of colours - dark, leafy greens and blue and black foods tend to have a high antioxidant level. Ageing occurs when free radicals attack the cells and break down the production of collagen and elastin. A diet high in antioxidants is the best way to mop up free radicals and reduce the inflammatory process.

Food is your friend, so nourish your body from within to enjoy healthy, beautiful skin every day.

[post_content] => Guava is an marvellous source of vitamin C. Only 100 g of Guava provides more than three times the required daily recommended intake. Vitamin C can help the body develop its resistance against infectious agents and scavenge cancer, which causes harmful free radicals. Vitamin C is also essential for collagen synthesis. Collagen is one of the chief structural protein in the human body required for maintaining integrity of blood vessels, organs, bones and of course the skin.

Guava also contains vitamin A (as beta-carotene) as well as folate. Beta-carotene is known to protect from certain cancers. It also has lycopene, which may prevent skin damage from UV rays and offer protection from prostate cancer.

Guava contains more potassium than bananas! It also has B-complex, vitamin E and K, as well as minerals like magnesium, copper, and manganese. Plus vitamin-A is also required for maintaining healthy mucusa and skin.

A delicious way to include Guava in your diet is by adding it to a fruit salad. Simply peel and chop one guava, some kiwi fruit, pineapple, a banana, and toss with orange segments, a handful of toasted coconut, some chopped ginger and some friend cranberries. Enjoy!

[post_content] => A great place to reboot your well being and boost anti ageing is with your liver, your body’s very own cleansing and recycling station. Day to day, the liver doesn’t get as much attention or care as other organs such as the heart, lungs or skin – but ignore it at your peril.

It might not beat like the heart, we cannot touch it like the skin and we cannot feel it like the lungs with every breath we take, but it works away quietly inside our body just as hard. As well as being your body’s second largest organ, did you know that the liver has not one, but three important jobs to do.

A bodyguard

The liver works tirelessly to prevent potential toxic substances from reaching the rest of the body. As large amounts of blood from the digestive organs pass through the liver, its cells, called hepatocytes, remove any potentially toxic substances before they can travel on to reach the other organs of the body. Enzymes then help to metabolise many of these toxins, which can include alcohol or drugs.

A storage facility

The liver also functions as a storage facility for many essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals in order to ensure a constant supply of these important substances to the tissues and cells of the entire body.

A detoxing station

The liver plays a vital role in our immune system by acting as a detoxing station. It cleanses large volumes of blood by capturing and digesting bacteria, fungi, parasites, worn-out blood cells and any cellular debris that ends up in our vessels.

Detox your diet!

Like most parts of your body, your liver’s function is enhanced or hampered by what foods you choose to include in your diet. Put simply, what you eat has a strong effect on the detox-ability of the liver. Eating foods that support the detoxification process can strongly reduce a build-up of harmful substances and have a positive impact on our wellbeing. Essential fatty acids like Omega 3, as found in fish-oil, krill-oil, extra virgin olive oil, seeds, nuts and avocado – just to mention a few – are highly beneficial to the liver’s detox process. A good daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables, along with high quality protein from eggs, fish and meat will also aid the process. You should also closely watch your fluid intake for optimum liver performance. Be sure to include plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable juices and where possible herbal teas. Try to avoid alcoholic drinks, coffee and processed sugars and if you do indulge, try to keep these to a minimum. To round off the ‘liver-friendly’ diet, a good quality nutritional supplement containing a broad range of vitamins and minerals is recommended.
