[post_content] => Les Parfaits is Gernétic’s premium anti-age line. It is the result of extensive research into cellular biology and advanced biotechnology. Les Parfaits consists of three products:

Concentré Réparateur Serum

Concentré Réparateur is the ultimate anti-ageing serum. It naturally rebuilds the matrix in conjunctive tissues by boosting the activity of the fibroblasts, thus increasing skin’s elasticity. Concentré Réparateur also provides genuine cellular repair to ageing, demineralized, dehydrated skin, marked by wrinkles, small lines and slackening tissue.  Find out more about the incredible Concentre Reparateur Serum

Crème Jeunesse Day Cream

Crème Jeunesse is a powerful protective, detoxifiying and repairing cream. It reverses skin damaged caused by the sun and gives the skin a genuine biological ‘lifting’ effect to help preserve or regain a youthful appearance.  You can read more about Creme Jeunesse here.

Crème Anti-Temps Night cream

Containing a powerful cocktail of active nutrients to combat ageing at cellular level, Crème Anti-Temps regenerates the skin from within. Crème Anti-Temps has soothing and desensitizing benefits, it is particularly recommended for sensitive and fragile skin. Check out Creme Anti-Temps Night Cream in our catalogue. Les Parfaits make use of the most potent active ingredients available to cosmetology today.   This includes an extract from Thermus thermophilus, which lives in hot water springs (75°C) that are found in the depths of the ocean between 2,000 and 4,000 metres under sea level. This bacterium is characterised by the distinctive chemistries of its cell wall and ribosomal ARN and by the exceptional ability it has to repair its own genetic make-up. Labo Ger’s is the first laboratory (to our knowledge) to have used an enzyme extracted from this bacterium in a skin care product. Other exotic active ingredients that give Les Parfaits its incredible properties include xylem sap from birch (considered to be an elixir of health and long life since the 9th century), extracts from Kigela Africana, Quillaja Saponaria Molina, Chritmum Maritimum and Porphyridium Cruentum associated with biological compounds rich in amino acids, trace elements and vitamins. [post_content] => It’s simple. For your skin to stay supple, radiant and protected it needs to receive certain nutrients from the food you eat. What you’re looking for are key beneficial vitamins such as A, B complex, C, D, E and F, minerals such as selenium and zinc, various enzymes, essential fatty acids, amino acids and antioxidants.

Start with Breakfast. A wonderful way to boost your skin first thing in the morning is a simple bowl of porridge. Oats are very high in soluble fibre, and complex carbohydrates, as well as iron, manganese, phosphorous, calcium, vitamins B & E, and silicon.  Silicon helps maintain collagen levels, to keep your skin plump.

Top with blueberries which contain powerful antioxidants, and honey. Honey is a nutrient-rich alternative to refined sugar, which is believed to contribute to skin ageing.

What could be a better start for your skin on a cold winter morning?

[post_content] => In winter, do you find yourself tempted to forgo exercise for that extra hour in bed? Hiding behind winter clothes as your skin dries out and your weight increases? Reaching for an extra cup of coffee, a chocolate bar or an energy drink every time you need an energy boost?

If you have answered yes to any (or all!) of these, then it’s time to make some changes. Getting your kicks with caffeine or remaining too sedentary during the winter months can play havoc with your energy levels and the condition of your skin. By making the following changes to your daily life during winter you can ensure you emerge into spring like a butterfly - not a caterpillar!
  1. Eating protein and fibre-rich foods will help keep your cardio-vascular, muscular and digestive systems in good health. For protein try lean read meats, seafood, lentils, beans, eggs and nuts. Fibre is abundant in whole grains, berries, lentils, beans, oats and peas.
  2. Maintain a steady blood sugar level. A good way to do this is by eating small, frequent meals rather than piling your plate high three times a day, and make sure these include complex carbohydrates and protein. Complex carbohydrates foods are basically those in whole grain form such as whole grain breads, oats, muesli and brown rice.
  3. Ensure your vitamin B and iron levels are stocked up. Vitamin B has an impact on the health of your skin and muscle tone. Iron is responsible for red blood cells as well as metabolism, immunity and mental sharpness. Eat plenty of whole grains, dairy products and egg yolks for vitamin B and fish, poultry and red meat for both proteins and iron. If you follow your meal with orange or grapefruit juice (for vitamin C), you’ll increase absorption of the iron in your food.
  4. Rather than curling up with endless cups of hot chocolate and coffee, ensure you keep as hydrated as you would in the summer with water and green tea. Avoid alcohol where possible as it can dehydrate, cause sleep disruptions and is associated with vitamin B deficiencies.

In fact, irritation and dryness may well be signs that your Acid Mantle could already do with a little nurturing.

So what is so important about this Acid Mantle anyway?

The Acid Mantle is vital to the health and well being of our skin and hair. When functioning efficiently, the Acid Mantle provides skin with a natural protective layer by blending an oily substance secreted by the Sebaceous glands and a salty substance secreted by the Eccrine sweat glands. These secretions are then further acidified by other secretions from normal flora of the skin to create an acidic environment with a pH of between 4.5 and 5.5. (pH is a universal measuring system that compares the strength of acids and bases at the skin level.) This allows the protective layer of the epidermis, comprised of tightly knit cells like shingles on a roof known as Keratinocytes, to act as an efficient barrier. Any disruption to the skin's natural pH such as over exposure to indoor heating, nutritional deficiencies caused by an imbalanced diet, excessive sweating and stresses and the most common of all: the usage of aggressive skin-exfoliating products, can prove quite damaging to the Acid Mantle. If the pH becomes elevated, ie. more alkaline, this greatly interferes with the protective barrier resulting in symptoms such as dehydration, roughness, irritation, blocked or enlarged pores. The skin also starts to become defenseless and susceptible to environmental damage. As cells pull further apart, breaks become exposed and render the skin more vulnerable to bacterial invasion. What was once a strong shield-like structure, can transform into a welcoming environment for bacteria to flourish. If the skin pH exceeds 6.5, bacterial invasion increases dramatically and a variety of skin disorders can result, such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

So how to achieve a pH fabulous skin?

The first place to start is with a quality pH balanced skincare. Gernetic skincare is packed full of vital and essential nutrients. Beware of products with high dosages of Vitamin A or C, they may look and sound scientific but are actually harmful to the skin. Gernetic nurtures the Acid Mantle with proteins and amino acids that stimulate skin cells’ natural regenerative and protective functions. Ensure your diet is rich in essential fatty acids, and try to reduce stress through exercise, meditation or yoga. A well-balanced lifestyle, leads to well balanced skin. After all achieving healthier skin is as simple as understanding and following proper skin chemistry and our natural biology. [post_title] => The Exfoliation Myth [post_excerpt] => With the chill and dryness of winter upon us, your skin may be experiencing dryness, dehydration, roughness, irritation, and blocked or enlarged pores. DRY

DON’T forget to drink water. You may not feel as thirsty in winter as you do in summer but it
is essential to keep your skin hydrated. Avoid caffeine-based drinks that can lead to dehydration and select herbal teas instead. Opt for super-nourishing creams enhanced with amino acids, peptides, proteins, vitamins and trace elements. Try Gernétic’s nutritive cream Synchro or super-nourishing Cytobi. These products not only leave your skin glowing, they also protect and nurture your skin’s membrane.

FLAKY

DON’T take long hot showers and baths. Hot water makes the skin lose moisture and affects the protective skin acid mantle. Try to take shorter showers using warm water and maintain soft, supple skin with Gernétic Shower Gel. Enriched with marine sediments and essential minerals to gently cleanse, it maintains the skin’s natural pH. Follow with Gernétic’s Softening Body Milk, a rich nourishing cream that hydrates, moisturises and firms.

ITCHY

DON’T turn up the heating. Heating systems can cause havoc with the moisture levels in the
air. Using a humidifier will help boost moisture levels and prevent the skin cells from drying up and feeling itchy. What is Pigmentation?

Human skin ranges naturally in colour from the darkest brown to the lightest pinkish-white tones. The different hues correlate to a specific genetic background as well as the geographical distribution and intensity of UV radiation. Areas close to the equator, which receive high levels of UV light support darker skinned populations. Nationalities located closer to the poles, where there are far lower levels of UV radiation, tend to be light skinned.

What gives the skin its colour?

The substance responsible for determining our skin colour is called melanin. Melanin is a brown coloured pigment that is produced in specialised corpuscules called melanosomes inside skin cells called melanocytes, found in the lower layers of the epidermis. Approximately 13 percent of our skin cells are melanocytes. Melanin plays an important role in our skin barrier defence system, protecting us against harmful UV radiation from the sun. When our skin is exposed to too much sunlight, the skin cells will react with an over-production of melanin.

What are visible signs of over-active pigmentation?

The most common types of increased pigmentation are hyper pigmentation, freckles or melasma. Hyper pigmentation occurs as darker spots or areas mainly in and around the face and on the back of the hands and is usually linked to sun damage. These darker spots are also related to the skin’s natural ageing process, but certain substances or drugs, such as fragrances, essential oils, antiseptics and components in sunscreens and prescription drugs are known to trigger an over production of melanin and the formation of pigmentation spots too. Freckles are multiple small tanned spots on the skin and can appear all over the body. They are relatively common in very fair skinned individuals and are not an indicator of sun damage, but can increase with excessive exposure to UV rays. A Melasma is a darker spot or area caused by hormonal changes due to pregnancy, menopause or other disruption of regular hormone production. Some medications or the contraceptive pill can also be responsible for the formation of Melasma.

What are some cosmetic treatments?

Gernétic has developed several products to address the problem of pigmentation. To explain how they work we need to go into more technical detail. Melanin is produced in melanosomes inside the melanocyte skin cells. The process involves the conversion of certain amino acids into very complex molecules, which are in turn transformed into melanin with the help of enzymes and one other important component, copper. When a melanocyte makes contact with a keratinocyte, the melanosomes are transferred to the keratinocyte. During the process of natural skin renewal these cells then slowly make their way from the epidermis to the surface of the skin. Once they arrive at the top layer, the pigments become visible, giving the skin its tan colour and the spots their visibility. Gernétic’s Skin Clair Depigmenting Concentrate has been developed to target pigmentation spots through the slow ‘re-programming’ of melanin production on cellular level. Through trapping the copper atoms involved, the melanosomes are unable to produce too much melanin and therefore the cells remain light in appearance and dark spots will slowly disappear. Skin-Clair-Depigmenting-Serum Gernétic’s Skin Clair Nutritive Cream targets free radicals, normalises the melanin production and lightens the overall complexion, pigmentation spots and freckles. Skin-Clair-Nutritive-Cream Gernétic’s Nuclea is a very beneficial cream for reducing pigmentation resulting from trauma like scarring or burns and is also recommended for reducing pigmentation related to the ageing process. The eyes also tend to be dryer because of the lack of sebaceous glands. They are often where the first telltale signs of tiredness, ageing and internal dysfunctions can show. Lifestyle can be a major contributor to problems of the eye area. Alcohol, caffeine and carbonated drinks all dehydrate the body, increasing the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles. Ensure you drink plenty of water, fresh vegetable and fruit juices and herbal teas to hydrate the skin and drain toxins away. Promote a healthy internal system by gorging yourself on fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables. Choose foods high in essential fatty acids, “the good fats” and choose wholemeal breads and cereals to bring you plenty of fibre as well as some of the vitamins from the B group. Avoid refined processed foods and drinks. Gernetic also has a wonderfully effective range of anti-ageing products to treat this delicate area. Follow our 10 minute eye treatment. Our express DIY eye treatment treats wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles and only takes 10 minutes of your time. For optimal results repeat once or twice a week.
