New Year, New You!
As we close the door on 2016 and welcome in 2017, many of us take time to reflect and reboot.
However, the urge to throw ourselves into a huge list of resolutions can have the opposite effect!
Think of all the years you’ve decided you’re going to go on a diet, run a marathon, fix your finances, renovate your house.
How often do we manage to keep up the momentum and achieve these colossal goals? All too often our resolutions have fallen flat by February and we are left feeling like we failed!
The key?
Set realistic goals for yourself – keep them small and manageable and take things day by day. If your goal is to get fit but you haven’t exercised in a long time, consider making your goal to walk 10 minutes every day for a month and then review it. Taking on the big ticket goals too quickly can lead to overwhelm overload and that’s a recipe for disaster!
Most of our goals tend to be adding to our already full to the brim lives, what about goals that remove things? De-cluttering that room, saying goodbye to an unhealthy relationship, spending less money on unnecessary items, less time browsing the internet?
The New Year should be a time of positive intention, of learning to be kind to ourselves and a time to look at your life as it stands. What’s important to you? What do you value most? What nourishes you and excites you? What makes you a better person? From that starting point, our goals can become clearer and more realistic to our individual needs.
Sometimes simply creating space in your life leaves you free to welcome in all the very best that the new year has to offer.
